Ford Madox Brown, Platt Lane, 1884, 1886, oil on canvas, 26 × 39.4 cm
A study of autumn colours in Platt Lane, Rusholme, not far from Ford Madox Brown’s Manchester home in Victoria Park, this is an uncharecteristic example of Brown’s painting and a clear influence on the work of Carel Weight.
Featured in our book Ford Madox Brown: Pre-Rafaelite Pioneer, you can also see it in the flesh at Manchester City Gallery, as part of their Ford Madox Brown exhibition that goes by the same name.
