Total Politics Book Awards 2013

We are delighted, and believe me eager, to announce that I.B.Tauris have received five nominations in the new political book awards launched this year by Total Politics.

The International Relations Book of the Year category shortlist was largely dominated by I.B.Tauris, featuring three nominations. These include “Nuclear Iran: The Birth of an Atomic State” by David Patrikarakos, “The Strongman: Vladimir Putin and the Struggle for Russia” by Angus Roxburgh, and “Britain’s Quest for a Role: A Diplomatic Memoir from Europe to the UN” by David Hannay.

Lord Hannay’s memoir on diplomacy, spanning five decades of service and highlighting the significance of the UK’s ties with the EU, has earned a nomination for Political Book of the Year. This award is selected from all submitted books. The recipient of the Political Book of the Year accolade will be awarded a £10,000 prize, generously provided by Lord Ashcroft and sponsor Paddy Power.

Finally, but certainly not least, Ian Cawood’s “The Liberal Unionist Party: A History” has been nominated for Political History Book of the Year. This book delves into the history of the short-lived Liberal Unionist Party from the 1880s, which formed a coalition government with the Conservative party.

The awards aim to acknowledge outstanding achievements in political writing and publishing and will be bestowed at a prestigious ceremony on Wednesday, February 6th, 2013, at the BFI IMAX cinema. The judging panels comprise Charles Clarke, Chris Mullin, and Mary Beard.

A spokesman for the awards has said the shortlist has ‘more flair and zing than a Barcelona midfield.’ Although we’re not sure it’s possible for anything to have more ‘zing’ than a Barcelona midfield, it’s not for us to decide.
