“Around the Pink House,” a renowned Lebanese film from the late 1990s, delves into the evolving urban fabric of Beirut following the Civil War. Set in La Maison Rose, an ancient mansion where the Nawfal family sought refuge during the conflict, the narrative unfolds against the backdrop of a rapidly transforming environment. As old, war-torn buildings give way to new construction projects, tensions arise when the owner of the pink house, Mattar, decides to sell it to make space for a large commercial complex. This decision sparks division among the neighborhood’s residents, with some supporting the idea of a different form of modernization while others, notably shopkeepers and businessmen, stand in opposition.
The Safar festival is scheduled from Friday, September 19th to Thursday, September 25th, 2014, while the exhibition will run from Tuesday, September 2nd to Sunday, October 5th, 2014.
